The firm develops resources through strategic planning for non-profit and non-governmental organizations. It is comprised of a group of talented individuals that know the ins and outs of corporate, foundation, and individual fundraising, as well as Board development and public relations. They include prospect researchers, strategic planners, proposal writers, public affairs and communications experts, and event planners. JMH Associates also works with clients to develop and produce institutional case statements.

The JMH Results-Driven Processes Deliver For Clients — JMH Associates is a boutique consulting firm that specializes in providing strategic counsel for its clients. The firm works closely with clients to develop a strategic plan – complete with milestones and targeted results – and does the difficult, tactical work to ensure the plan’s successful execution.

Selected Engagements — Presently, JMH Associates is engaged with the Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum Foundation (a public-private partnership) to execute a $95 million dollar campaign to restore the battlefield, start an endowment, and construct a new visitor center. The firm has worked with the Foundation since the project’s inception to develop a strategic plan, which was approved by the U.S. Park Service. JMH Associates is also currently working with the Common Good, a non-profit dedicated to restoring common sense and reliability to American law.
Most recently, JMH Associates worked with the Annenberg Foundation in developing a start-up program focusing on rural schools. A framework for the board was developed that subsequently raised $50 million for this new effort.
JMH Associates was engaged with the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University to create a strategic architecture for its first multi-million-dollar campaign. The goal, as defined jointly with Fuqua, was to create a sustainable framework for fundraising that would deliver short-term targeted results, as well as enable a longer-term revenue pipeline for the School.

Hills, the firm’s principal, works personally and directly with the management, board, and staff to develop a plan that merges institutional priorities with a development and communications plan. Together, they determine what works best to maximize potential fundraising revenue from many diverse sources. This approach for initial engagements enables the most efficient use of the firm’s resources on an as-needed basis, which translates into cost savings for clients. Mr. Hills’ past work and experience with the Brookings Institution, Georgetown University, University of Maryland, and Roanoke College enables him to bring rich expertise and successful approaches to the clients of JMH Associates.

Its consulting engagements have been most beneficial to the clients when the staff is able to develop a close working relationship directly with the development team. Europe — Currently, JMH Associates is looking to expand its work internationally, starting in the United Kingdom, by helping NGOs focus on strategic planning to increase resources. The firm’s focus in the U.K. would be to work with an organization’s management team in a variety of areas including:  in-country staff training, board development, needs assessment, and institutional coordination to maximize effectiveness in collaboration with management and the board. Working with organizations in the U.K. would allow JMH Associates to take advantage of a much wider array of resources, both in the U.K. and in other countries, including the U.S.
